Prince William took an immediate step to crush an important issue before it transpired into a full-blown controversy after his father had faced a similar setback.
The Prince of Wales learned from past mistakes of King Charles, who found himself in a scandal about accepting cash for honours to support his charities.
An investigation was launched in 2022 about the then-prince Charles that he accepted bags containing millions of euros in cash during meetings with a senior Qatari politician, per a Sunday Times report.
Now, The Sun reported over last week that one of the donors of Prince William’s charity, millionaire Minerva Mondejar Steiner, had issued a “strictly private and confidential” email with “cash for access” invites for £20,000 to members of a luxury travel and lifestyle community.
As soon as Kensington Palace learned of the news, William took a strict action and immediately cut off all ties with the sponsor.
Royal Editor Matt Wilkinson noted that William has been taking more decisive steps as he is preparing to become the future King.
“The minute William heard about this, they axed that donor and the royal family have had a history of problems,” Matt said pointing to the controversy with Charles.
Royal author Phil Dampier noted that William didn’t want to be “tainted” by that and so he “acted immediately” as cash-for-access is the “worst thing that [royals] can be accused of.”
“He had to act decisively and that person will be out but uh you know people around him have got to be more careful in future as to who they associate with and what they get involved with,” Phil added.
Matt explained that William “didn’t let it fester” and that the decision “bodes well for his future” position.
Journalist Esther Krakuer said that William is “in tune” with the public opinion and that’s his “first priority as opposed to keeping friends in high places happy”.
She lauded that William is exhibiting the aura of the “kind of monarch that people are more likely to get behind than going down the sleazy politician route”.
