Meghan Markle is taking a stroll down memory lane as she marks a very special occasion with Prince Harry.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex had their first official date on America's Independence Day in 2016. Marking their eight-year meet-iversary, Meghan, 43, took to her official Instagram page to celebrate.
In the reel, the As Ever founder put together a beautiful fruit charcuterie board consisting of multiple types of berries, cherries, watermelon, cheeses, bread, crackers, and, of course, some As Ever jam.
“Red, white and blue….and easy to do! Happy 4th, friends,” she wrote in the caption, adding, “Be safe, have fun.”
The message may seem like a straightforward Fourth of July celebration at first. However, royal fans would remember that Harry used those exact words in his memoir — “red, white and blue” — while recalling his first time meeting his now-wife.
In his contentious 2023 memoir, Spare, Harry recalled asking a mutual friend to set them up after seeing Meghan on social media.
Harry, now, 40, and Meghan, now 43, had their first official date on July 4, 2016 — a day after meeting for the first time in London.
The Duke wrote, “She walked in, wearing a pretty blue sundress with white pinstripes. She was aglow. I stood and said: I bear gifts. A pink box.”
Notably, Meghan was wearing a white shirt with blue stripes in a behind-the-scenes video of the charcuterie-board-making posted to her As Ever page.
“She opened the box. Cupcakes. Red, white and blue cupcakes, to be exact. In honour of Independence Day. I said something about the Brits having a very different view of Independence Day from the Yanks, but, oh, well,” he wrote, adding that Meghan said the treats ‘looked amazing.”
