Prince William marks Diana’s birthday by honouring her legacy of compassion
Princess Diana would have turned 64 today
Prince William paid a poignant tribute to his late mother, Princess Diana, on what would have been her 64th birthday by continuing the work she held close to her heart.
On July 1, the Prince of Wales visited Sheffield to mark the second anniversary of Homewards, his ambitious homelessness initiative led by The Royal Foundation.
The project aims to make homelessness "rare, brief, and unrepeated."
The visit was especially meaningful, as Diana was a passionate advocate for the homeless.
As Patron of Centrepoint from 1992, she made it a priority to open her sons’ eyes to the realities faced by those living on the streets.
Later, William visited a local school pioneering a new early intervention programme. The initiative is designed to spot students at risk of housing insecurity and offer support well before a crisis hits.
It’s a proactive approach that aligns with Homewards’ core belief that homelessness is not inevitable and with the right systems in place, it can be prevented.
As the project enters its third year, the Prince’s visit underscored his commitment to building lasting solutions and continuing the legacy of compassion his mother, Princess Diana, instilled in him.
From a young age, William and Harry accompanied her to shelters, witnessing firsthand the struggles of the vulnerable.
Diana tragically died in a car crash in Paris in 1997, when William was just 15 and Prince Harry was 12.
