Prince Harry threatens to tarnish King Charles’s legacy
Prince Harry attempts family name change amid Royal feud
King Charles’s legacy could be at risk as the ongoing feud with Prince Harry continues to cast a shadow over the Royal Family.
Since stepping back from royal duties in 2020 alongside Meghan Markle and relocating permanently to the US, the Duke of Sussex has remained estranged from his father, King Charles III. Now five years on, the rift shows no signs of healing.
The divide was especially evident during Charles’s recent visit to Canada to open Parliament in Ottawa, while Harry was halfway across the world attending a sustainable travel conference in China.
Royal journalist and author Valentine Low warned that the feud between King Charles and Prince Harry could “potentially damage Charles’s legacy” if it remains unresolved.
Yet, he suggested Harry’s recent explosive BBC interview where the Duke claimed Charles "won’t speak to me" and expressed uncertainty about "how much longer my father has" amid the King’s cancer treatment only makes reconciliation more difficult.
"It wasn’t meant to be an attack, but it would be seen as one," Low told People.
Speaking on the prospects of a family reunion, Low noted there doesn’t appear to be a "good angel" whispering in the King’s ear to "be a good dad and make the first move."
Still, he believes the public sympathizes with Charles’s difficult position and can "separate the private drama from his public role."
