King Frederik and Queen Mary of Denmark have bent royal tradition by taking a private holiday abroad with their eldest son, 19-year-old Crown Prince Christian.
Traditionally, the Crown Prince serves as regent in the monarch’s absence, stepping in to fulfill royal duties while the sovereign is out of the country.
However, with Christian joining his parents and siblings on the trip, the responsibility has instead fallen to a familiar face.
Danish outlet Billed-Bladet first reported that the royal couple and their four children were set to enjoy a private stay abroad.
King Frederik is scheduled to resume his royal responsibilities on Monday, starting with daily audiences.
Queen Mary will join him Tuesday to welcome leaders from the Conference of Presidents of the European Parliament at Amalienborg Palace.
On Wednesday, Queen Mary is expected to attend the Global Fashion Summit in Copenhagen, continuing her long-standing advocacy for sustainable fashion.
Meanwhile, Princess Isabella is marking a personal milestone of her own. The young royal, who turned 18 in April, is preparing to graduate from Øregård Gymnasium in the coming weeks.
The family was last seen together during King Frederik’s 57th birthday celebrations, appearing on the balcony of Palace.
The King and Queen stood arm in arm, warmly waving to the crowd and exchanging affectionate glances.
Later, they were joined by Princess Isabella, Prince Vincent, Princess Josephine, and Queen Margrethe, delighting well-wishers gathered below with the united royal appearance.
