Liam Payne father receives good news months after singer’s death
Liam Payne died in October after falling from balcony of Argentinian hotel
Liam Payne’s father Geoff Payne has finally breathed a sigh of relief months after former One Direction star’s tragic death.
Roger Nores, an Argentinian businessman who was with Liam during his final days in Buenos Aires, has filed a motion dismiss a lawsuit against Geoff.
The businessman sued the For You crooner’s father in January for defamation after he was charged with manslaughter in December 2024. The charges against Roger were dropped in February and now he has quashed his lawsuit.
The document obtained by the People Magazine states that Roger "gives notice that the above-captioned action is voluntarily dismissed without prejudice."
Previously, in his claim, Roger alleged that Geoff's statements were "false, contained material omissions, and many parts were not based on personal knowledge."
In 263 – page complaint, Roger accused that his friendship with Liam was misinterpreted and that he "did not have a legal duty to Liam" and were just "mutual friends."
In response Payne’s estate shut down Roger’s claims stating that "[Geoff] denies, in strongest possible terms, that he has defamed or otherwise caused any harm to your client (in manner set out by your correspondence of 8 January 2025 or otherwise)."
Geoff claimed that Roger was part of a "care group" and was supposed to "keep Liam busy" since he "could not be left in a vulnerable position."
In addition to Roger, charges against hotel manager Gilda Martin and receptionist Esteban Grassi, were dropped after hearing in Argentinian court in February.
The cause of Liam’s tragic death on October 16 was confirmed to be polytrauma. The singer was buried in Amersham, England on November 20.
