The Queen was reportedly ‘deeply moved’ by Ms. Pelicot’s harrowing ordeal, which involved being drugged and assaulted by her ex-husband and other men over a nearly a decade.
Ms. Pelicot, who chose to waive her anonymity, played a crucial role in Avignon, France, led to the conviction of 50 men on charges of rape or other sexual offences, bringing global attention to the shocking case.
As a long-time advocate for victims of domestic and sexual violence, Camilla has consistently been vocal about women’s rights and push for change.
In a recent documentary, she reaffirmed her commitment to the cause, calling domestic abuse a heinous crime.
‘Camilla was tremendously affected by the Madame Pelicot case in France and that the lady’s extraordinary dignity and courage as she out herself in the public eye,’ a Palace source told NewsWeek.
