Renee Zellweger shares her thoughts on ‘Bridget Jones’
Renee Zellweger has recently spoken in favour of her female protagonist Bridget Jones ahead of the release of the fourth Bridget movie - Mad About The Boy.
The actress reportedly clapped back at critics who called Bridget Jones calorie-counting, ideal-man-seeking woman in the new movie.
While defending her character, Renee said, “I don't find it toxic, in my opinion. I love Bridget Jones. I've always loved Bridget Jones, and I love her more with every reunion.”
“I never thought there was anything wrong with her,” remarked the 55-year-old.
The actress told the outlet, “I'd always thought of it more generally as a representation of how we pick on ourselves about things that are entirely of no consequence — because she's not an overweight person.”
While reflecting on her self-deprecating attitude, Renee mentioned that Bridget Jones “is cute” and there’s nothing wrong with her experiences.
“It’s just that relatable sort of universal experience of being afraid that you won’t measure up,” added the actress.
This new Mad About The Boy movie has been facing backlash over its “cougar” storyline as people are talking about all the movies that are depicting this young boy and old age woman relationship.
However, Renee stated, “I have no regrets. This is nothing new in society.”
