Kensington Palace sends 'clear' message about Kate Middleton's U-turn
The Princess of Wales sparked uproar with recent reports of a major upcoming change
Kensington Palace is setting the record straight after reports of a major U-turn by Princess Kate.
Earlier this month, The Times reported that the palace was shifting focus away from the princess’s fashion, suggesting that official outfit details would no longer be provided. A source told the outlet, “There is an absolute feeling that it [the public work] is not about what the princess is wearing.”
Now, a palace spokesperson wants “to clarify” that claim, telling GB News: “The comments that appeared in the article were from me, not The Princess of Wales. The comments that were reported should not be directly attributed to The Princess of Wales.”
“To be clear, there has been no change in our approach to sharing information about Her Royal Highness’s clothing.”
Initial reports suggested that details of Kate’s outfits would only be released on important occasions rather than routine engagements. “There will always be an appreciation of what the princess is wearing…and she gets that. But do we need to be officially always saying what she is wearing? No.”
Kate’s influence on the fashion industry — dubbed the "Kate effect" — has been undeniable since her 2011 wedding, with her outfit choices often selling out in hours.
