Prince William's surprising career ambition revealed before becoming King

Prince William's entire life has been planned for him since his birth. 

There isn't much room for personal preferences because it was clear from the start that he would eventually succeed his father and rule the nation as king.

Despite having his entire life planned out for him, Prince William once dreamed of pursuing a completely other line of work, and the charming explanation for this was his late mother, Diana, Princess of Wales.

The assertion was supported by Andrew Morton, Diana's biographer, who described an exchange Diana had with William and Harry.

He said: "William and Harry were aware of their destiny. On one occasion the boys were discussing their futures with Diana.

"'When I grow up I want to be a policeman and look after you Mummy,' said William. Quick as a flash Harry replied, with a note of triumph in his voice, 'Oh no you can't, you've got to be king'," Morton continued.

Prince William once disclosed that Prince George was likewise "obsessed" with the police, suggesting that the desire to work as a police officer runs in the family.

Police Commissioner Jayne Richardson informed William that extra officers were needed in the region during a reception held at Kensington Palace in honour of Scotland Yard.

She quipped: "We are recruiting, actually, so if George and Charlotte are keen?" Prince William laughed and replied: "[George] is obsessed, actually, by the police… cars, toys, everything."

The year before, Prince William had personally given Santa Claus his son's Christmas list, revealing George's interest in the police. There was only one request on the list: a police vehicle!

Princess Charlotte, George's younger sister, has reportedly shown interest in becoming a nurse after her father gave her and her two brothers an overview of the work that NHS employees do.

Insiders at the Palace informed New Idea that Charlotte had expressed to her parents her desire to work as a nurse.

The insider said: "She’s obviously just a little kid but still, William and Kate swelled with pride. She’s such a caring little girl who also knows what she wants, so they wouldn’t be surprised if she does take on nursing as one of her big causes when she’s older."
