Amanda Seyfried addressed rumours about auditioning for the musical Wicked.
On December 10, in an exclusive chat with People, the 39-year-old star clarified the speculation around a viral video of her singing Popular from the film, in a silver princess dress, stating it wasn’t an audition for Glinda’s role.
The Mean Girls actress revealed that the video was filmed during a Lancôme campaign in Long Island City, during COVID, with her stylist Elizabeth Stewart by her side.
"I was not auditioning for Wicked yet, but I knew it was coming up," she told the magazine.
"So I was just f****ing around, and I was like, 'This dress is so Glinda and Elizabeth was like, 'Do it.' And then she posted at some point."
Amanda admitted she loves her stylist but expressed that it would have been better if the video hadn’t been uploaded on social media, and described it as a behind-the-scenes moment.
However, the Mamma Mia! actress further confessed that even though the video was made as a joke, she did eventually audition for the role of Glinda, which was awarded to the 31-year-old singer, Ariana Grande.
"I went hard for that, for sure and it was a very long process. Everything happens the way it's meant to," she said while adding that she thought the film was, "Fantastic."
