Martin Lee, a member of the Brotherhood of Man, has passed away at the age of 77.

The singer-songwriter died on Sunday, September 29, from heart failure following a brief illness, as confirmed by his bandmates in a heartfelt statement on the group’s official Facebook page on October 1.

The pop group is best known for their iconic performance that won the 1976 Eurovision Song Contest with the hit Save Your Kisses for Me.

"Martin sang lead vocals on the 1976 Eurovision Winner Save Your Kisses for Me, which was number one in 31 countries and the Guinness book biggest selling Eurovision single of all time plus the biggest winner by percentage of vote," they highlighted Lee's role in the band's success.

In addition to his vocal talents, Lee co-wrote many of the band's hits alongside fellow member Lee Sheriden, contributing to three number-one records.

“He will be sadly missed by his fellow band members Nicky Stevens, Lee Sheriden, and especially Sandra Stevens, to whom he had been married for 45 happy years,” his bandmates expressed their sorrow.

Following their Eurovision victory, the group enjoyed a successful touring career around the globe until they officially retired from performing in 2020.

Reflecting on their shared journey, the band remarked, “Over the past 50 years, the four of us have toured the world together in harmony and have so many happy memories, but now we are in total shock and cannot imagine a world without Martin Lee. R.I.P.”

Lee joined Brotherhood of Man in 1972, serving as lead vocalist and guitarist.
