Kate Middleton’s new public statement under scrutiny over ‘silly’ blunder
Princess Kate recently released a statement to confirm absence from Trooping the Colour
Princess Kate’s latest show of support for King Charles’ upcoming birthday parade has met with a deluge of scrutiny over a grammar error.
The Princess of Wales recently penned an apology letter to the regiment of Irish Guards over missing Colonel’s Review and subsequently Trooping the Colour in the wake of her ongoing battle with cancer.
The emotional note was read out by the commanding officer of the coterie during the event’s rehearsal, leading to the letter being posted on the internet a few hours later.
Internet users were put off by the incorrect use of word ‘practicing,’ pointing out the correct usage of this word in American English.
Moreover, the “I am very sorry that I’m unable take the salute...” line was missing a ‘to’ between ‘unable’ and ‘take’.
Meanwhile, some raised questions over Kate’s signature in her handwriting.
“Re. comments about Kate's letter, such as "NOT ONLY DOES A BRITISH WOMAN NOW WRITE "PRACTISING" (AMERICAN ENGLISH) INSTEAD OF "PRACTICING" – “ fumed one user.
“In British English, practice is a noun and practise is a verb,” they clarified. “In American English, usually the verb and noun are both spelled practice.”
“Seems like #Kensingtonpalace doesn’t have proof readers! Letters from Palaces shouldn’t contain a single grammar mistakes especially if they written in the English language,” another sneered.
“I’m unable take the salute’...” they added, “& the e-signature is a bit [face palm emoji]”.
