The story of how Anya Taylor-Joy’s husband Malcolm McRae proposed to her proves that they’re soulmates.
Though the Queen’s Gambit star, 28, likes to keep her relationship mostly private, she shared a heartwarming story of how McRae, 30, unknowingly gave her the proposal of her dreams.
During an interview with Letterboxd published Monday, Taylor-Joy revealed that their proposal was highly reminiscent of one of her favourite movies, Forrest Gump.
“Forrest Gump, I love that movie, I miss movies like that. Just huge, epic sagas where you just feel every emotion under the sun and there’s like this beautiful poetry underneath it. I love it,” she said as her Furiosa co-star Chris Hemsworth asked if there was anything particularly special about the iconic bench from the film.
“Yes. My husband accidentally proposed to me on the Forrest Gump bench in Savannah,” Taylor-Joy responded.
“Complete accident and he’s a boy from Alabama. And I’m blonde. So just, just happened,” she elaborated, referring to the similarities with the Alabama-born Forrest Gump and his golden-haired childhood sweetheart Jenny Curran.
Taylor-Joy quietly tied the knot with McRae in 2022 on April Fool’s Day.
