'Baby Reindeer' star Nava Mau says Teri's character 'inspired me'
Nava Mau spills beans on a deleted scene in Netflix' dark comedy series Baby Reindeer
Nava Mau opened up about her transformative experience portraying Teri in Baby Reindeer, a role that deeply impacted her personally.
In a recent interview with GQ, the actress who played Donny Dunn's ex-girlfriend in Richard Gadd's real-life stalker drama shared how playing Teri led to profound changes in her personality.
Playing Teri changed her "1000%," Mau expressed. "I really had to figure out what it is that keeps me from being so self-assured, and why do I swallow my anger? And where does it go? She inspired me."
In addition to her personal growth, Mau disclosed that a deleted scene provided closure to her character.
Teri, a transgender woman romantically involved with Donny, faced challenges when their relationship didn't work out, leading them to part ways.
While viewers empathised with Teri, some were disappointed she didn’t receive a happy ending with Donny. However, Mau revealed that a deleted scene brought closure to both her and Teri.
"There actually was one more piece of Teri and Donny’s relationship in the script, and I performed it," Mau revealed.
"Teri leaves Donny a voicemail five months later. So I think, for me, I got closure because Teri did too. That’s what gave me so much comfort, knowing that they found peace with regards to their relationship," she added.
Furthermore, Teri's character found happiness in a new relationship.
Baby Reindeer has become an instant fan favourite following its Netflix debut on April 11.
