Leonardo DiCaprio is going to play Frank Sinatra in a new biopic directed by his longtime friend and director Martin Scorsese.
The Titanic star, who last collaborated with Martin for 2023’s Killers of the Flower Moon, will now portray Frank alongside Jennifer Lawrence as the singer’s second wife, Ava Gardner per DailyMail.
Leonardo and Jennifer previously worked together in 2021 movie, Don’t Look Up.
According to Variety, Martin has advanced plans for the biopic despite not having the support of the Sinatra family.
Frank’s daughter Tina, whose mother Nancy Barbato was Sinatra’s first wife before he left her for Ava, controls the icon’s estate and holds the key to a potential biopic.
The outlet reported that the upcoming project is garnering “interest from major studios and streamers” while Sony is said to be the frontrunner to acquire the upcoming movie.
For the unversed, Leonardo and Martin have earlier appeared together in six feature movies including Gangs of New York (2002), The Aviator (2004), The Departed (2006), Shutter Island (2010), The Wolf of Wall Street (2013), The Audition (2015) and Killers of the Flower Moon (2023).
Interestingly, Leonardo is eager to portray the character and for that he has hired a vocal coach to mimic Sinatra‘s famous singing voice.
Meanwhile, sources told Variety that Martin “plans to shoot two movies nonstop; the first about Jesus and second, a Frank Sinatra biopic.
