Dan Schneider breaks silence over accusations of sexualising child stars
Dan Schneider released a lengthy statement following Quiet on Set docu-series premiere
Dan Schneider is fighting back accusations made in ID’s new docuseries about the dark reality of kids’ television.
The 58-year-old producer, who created several successful TV shows for Nickelodeon, such as The Amanda Show, iCarly, Victorious, All That, and more, has been accused of sexualizing former child stars, including Ariana Grande, Amanda Bynes, and Jamie Lynn Spears.
In a statement to Variety, a spokesperson for Schneider shifted the blames to the accusers for “projecting their adult minds onto kids’ shows.”
They claimed that the scenes and plotlines of the shows occurred in front of dozens of adults and subsequently approved by the network.
“If there was an actual problem with the scenes that some people, now years later are ‘sexualizing,’ they would be taken down,” they argued, “but they are not, they are aired constantly all over the world today still, enjoyed by both kids and parents.”
The rep went on to explain the extend of measures taken to ensure safety of kids on set, including seeking approval of network executives on all stories, dialogue, costumes, and makeup.
“In addition, every day on every set, there were always parents and caregivers and their friends watching filming and rehearsals,” they continued.
The statement added. “Unfortunately, some adults project their adult minds onto kids’ shows, drawing false conclusions about them.”
