Arsenal win crucial Premier League match against Brentford
Arsenal finish weekend in Premier League's second place and on top of table if Liverpool and Manchester City are drawn
Arsenal defeated Brentford 2-1 in a thrilling football match to take the lead in the Premier League on Saturday.
Arsenal were on the advantage as the game took place at the Emirates Stadium, which is their home ground with the support of the crowd. For Arsenal to lead the league, they needed to win this game.
Arsenal looked powerful from the beginning of the game. 19 minutes into the game, Declan Rice scored a stunning goal as his header landed in the net following a superb pass from Ben White.
Arsenal appeared to be in control, but a major error was made right before halftime. Aaron Ramsdale, Arsenal's goalkeeper, mistakenly allowed Yoane Wissa of Brentford to take advantage and score.
Talking to the media after the match, Gunners boss Mikel Arteta lauded Ramsdale’s performance after his mistake. “An error is part of football. It is how to react to it (that matters),” he said. “Especially for the keepers, it is probably the most difficult position.”
In the second half, both teams were motivated and tried their best to win the game. Despite his earlier error, Ramsdale produced several outstanding saves to keep his team in the game as Arsenal persisted in their offensive.
The atmosphere in the stadium was tense as the two teams ramped up their efforts to net the ball. Meantime, the decisions made by referee Robert Jones angered Arsenal players and supporters. However, one of Arsenal's main players, Kai Havertz, turned out to be fortunate to dive with a header while escaping a second yellow card for diving in the box.
Kai's late winner, his fourth goal in four league games, helped Arsenal go to the top of the table of the Premier League.
Mark Flekken, Brentford's goalkeeper, produced some excellent saves to keep his club in the match as the Brentford players were not ready to give up. However, Arsenal made it in the 86th minute when Kai Havertz secured a 2-1 victory with a header. As Arsenal won the match and took the lead in the Premier League, their fans at the Emirates Stadium erupted in joy.
The match was crucial for Arsenal as they direly needed this win at the top of the league. It means that Arsenal will finish the weekend in second place and on top of the table if Liverpool and Manchester City are drawn. Brentford were still in 15th place, five points clear of Luton Town in 18th place and in the relegation zone.
After the match, Kai Havertz talked to the media and spoke about his happiness in leading the squad to victory. He said that regardless of the position he plays, he enjoys playing for Arsenal and is eager to contribute.
Arsenal needed this victory more than anyone since they wanted to win the league and the forthcoming Champions League matches.
Talking to the media, Thomas Frank, the manager of the Bees, said that it was sad for his team to lose the match after demonstrating such a strong performance.
He said to reporters, "That's tough, oof that's tough." "I truly have even greater sympathy for the players. Incredible willpower, effort, and mindset.
