Dua Lipa eyes role in Pedro Almodovar's film post-'Barbie' triumph

Dua Lipa is aiming to join the ranks of esteemed actresses in Pedro Almodovar's cinematic universe, following her recent appearances in 2024's Argylle and the blockbuster hit Barbie in 2023. 

The Grammy-winning artist expressed her aspiration to star in a film by Oscar-winning director Pedro Almodovar, renowned for his acclaimed works such as I'm So Excited! and Parallel Mothers.

His female leads, referred to as 'chicas Almodovar' in Spain, have become synonymous with his signature style. 

Hollywood actress Penelope Cruz has notably been a frequent collaborator, appearing in seven of Almodovar's films since 1997.

In an interview with Spanish news website El Espanol, Dua shared her admiration for Pedro, expressing her desire to join the esteemed group of 'Almodovar girls.'

She emphasized the empowering portrayal of women in Almodovar's films, which celebrate authenticity without reservation.

Pedro's cinematic oeuvre is renowned for its powerful portrayal of female protagonists, who take center stage in his narratives.
