King Charles ascended to the British throne at the age of 74, following the passing of his mother.

The newly-crowned king had been waiting to assume his role for a long time, but he now finds it difficult as it restricts him in many ways.

According to Paul Burrell, the former butler and confidante of Charles’ ex-wife Princess Diana, the monarch is “going to find it very different this year” because after his ascension “things have changed,” via Express.co.uk.

He opined that the King is “going to find that difficult because now he has to work, to some degree, every single day of the rest of his life.”

Burrell pointed out that last year, Charles “could do what he wanted, go wherever he wanted to go and didn’t have any constraints, but this year he’s monarch and he will have to, wherever he is, receive his government red box every single day, the way the Queen did all her life.”

He added, “It’s a big shock when you’ve been waiting, a big shock for him when he’s been waiting for this job all his life and now, he’s got it well, he’s chained to it.”

The King and his family will be gathering at the Scottish Palace, Balmoral, for the annual royal tradition set by his late mother.

Balmoral was known to be one of the late Queen Elizabeth’s favourite places, and it also happens to be the place where she breathed her last on September 2022 at the age of 96.

Burrell added that Charles’ summer holidays won’t be the same ever again compared to other members of the royal family. “The minor Royals can literally do what they want to do but not the King and not the Queen. So, their lives, they will find, have changed and their time isn’t their own,” he shared.
