Searchlight Pictures has decided to delay the theatrical release of Yorgos Lanthimos' intriguing film, "Poor Things," with the intention of capitalizing on the star power of Hollywood's finest.

The movie, centered around a monster tale, has already been confirmed for its premiere at the esteemed Venice Film Festival. Coinciding with the news of its Venice debut, Searchlight has rescheduled the commercial release of "Poor Things" from September 8 to December 8.

"Poor Things" was initially slated for a September theatrical release, but due to the participation of SAG-AFTRA members in the strike alongside WGA members, those plans were disrupted.

This decision allows the studio to leverage the popularity of A-list actors like Emma Stone, Mark Ruffalo, and Willem Dafoe in promoting the film once the ongoing Hollywood actors strike is resolved.

As the industry grapples with historic strikes by SAG-AFTRA and the Writers Guild of America, these organizations have prohibited their members from promoting upcoming projects tied to major studios or streaming platforms.

With the potential delay, Yorgos Lanthimos might find himself at the Venice Film Festival with a less dazzling array of stars gracing the red carpet.

The film, produced by Searchlight Pictures, follows Emma Stone's character, Bella Baxter, who returns to life as a Frankenstein-like monster and embarks on a journey of discovery and freedom.

Willem Dafoe plays the role of a brilliant and unorthodox scientist, while Mark Ruffalo portrays a slick and debauched lawyer. The film also features Ramy Youssef, Jerrod Carmichael, and Christopher Abbott.

The screenplay for "Poor Things" was penned by Tony McNamara, the writer of "The Favourite," based on the novel of the same name by Alasdair Gray.
