Pak Sarzameen Party (PSP) leaders Mustafa Kamal and Anis Qaimkhani, as part of their mass-contact campaign to muster support for the party’s first public gathering on April 24, visited Landhi and Korangi No 5 on Saturday.

There, they requested citizens to participate in the party’s rally if they wanted change and rid the city of violence.

Iftikhar Alam, a PSP spokesperson, told The News that the party had launched its mass-contact campaign and had received a very positive response from the citizens. In fact, residents had showered them with rose petals and garlanded both the leaders on their arrival in their areas.

However, it had been learnt that the district administration might not issue permission to the party to stage its rally over security concerns, though the management board of the Mazar-e-Quaid has issued a no-objection certificate to the party subject to the approval of the administration and police.

Kamal has said the party would exercise its legal right to organise the gathering at any cost

The PSP has instructed its supporters to prepare for the public meeting.

Alam told The News that the PSP had contacted the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz, the Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid and the Awami National Party as a gesture of goodwill.

The party has also formed a special task force for monitoring the progress of the preparations for the public gathering and also to work out a plan in case the administration does not allow it to stage the rally. Another committee is working on the resolutions that will be adopted there.

“We are confident that the rally will go ahead as scheduled and will be a milestone in Karachi’s political history,” Alam said.

A week earlier, the information secretary of the PSP, Iftikhar Alam, had told The News that he would approach all political and religious parties and ask for their participation in the public gathering.

As the first step in this direction, a delegation headed by Raza Haroon met a central leader of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Isnsaf (PTI), Imran Ismail. The meeting to formally invite the PTI to the public gathering turned into a joint press conference.
