PESHAWAR: The Federation of All Pakistan Universities Academic Staff Association (Fapuasa), Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chapter, rejected the KP Universities (Amendment) Act 2015 and termed it a blow to autonomy of universities.
Speaking at a news conference on Monday, Fapuasa president Prof Fazal Nasir, general secretary Dr Fayyaz Ali and Dr Iqbal Munir said the recently adopted Act would harm academic activities and promote political influence in the institutions.
The Fapuasa office-bearers said the act would affect studies of students. They said the appointment of professors on administrative posts was also illegal while the eligibility criteria for vice-chancellors appointments have been made complicated.
They said relevant stakeholders were not taken into confidence before adopting the law. The Fapuasa office-bearers warned the government to include their proposals in the new legislation or else they would stage sit-in outside the provincial assembly.
