PESHAWAR: The Peshawar High Court (PHC) has summoned registrar of the Islamia College University Peshawar in contempt of court petition for stopping the salaries of teachers of Islamia Collegiate School despite the court orders restraining the administration not to take adverse action against the teachers.
A two-member bench comprising Chief Justice Mazhar Alam Miankhel and Justice Irshad Qaisar summoned the registrar for violating the court orders. The court issued the direction in a contempt of court petition filed by 20 teachers of Islamia Collegiate School including Fazal Wahab and others through their lawyer Muhammad Essa Khan.
The lawyer submitted that the teachers of the historic school were appointed on contract basis in 2006, but were denied permanent status. He contended that the teachers then filed a writ petition in the high court for their regularization.
The counsel said the high court on July 15, 2014 had passed an interim order in the petition directing the administration of the university not to take any adverse action against the teachers till final order of the court.
He informed the bench that on April 14, 2015 the registrar of the university issued a notification in which he not only gave additional duties to the 23 teachers of the school who had filed case for their regularization and also stopped their salaries.
Furthermore, he said the administration was also not providing a time table to the teachers. He requested the court to start contempt of court proceedings against the registrar Sareer Badshah. The court issued notice to the registrar asking him to appear and explain as why he violated the court orders on next hearing.
