A local court on Friday awarded 30 years imprisonment to a man for kidnapping and sexually assaulting a minor girl in 2009.
Additional District and Sessions Judge (East) while announcing the verdict observed that the prosecution had proved the charges of kidnap and rape of a minor girl whereas the convict was liable to be awarded 30 years’ imprisonment for this cruel act.
Farhan had kidnapped the victim from an area within the jurisdiction of the PIB Colony police station on May 9, 2009 and had kept her in illegal confinement for 10 days during which he had raped her.
‘PPP activist’ remanded
An alleged activist of the Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP) was handed over to the Rangers on a 90-day preventive detention on charges of weapons’ smuggling and extortion by an anti-terrorism court (ATC) on Friday.
The Rangers claimed that Riaz Khan was arrested from Machar Colony and was apparently an activist of the PPP. He was said to be a leader of a group of criminals involved in collecting extortion from area residents.
Three extortionists jailed
An ATC awarded 12 years’ imprisonment to three extortionists while a fourth
was sentenced to 10 years in jail.
Convicts Yaseen, Khalid and Noman were arrested from Gulshan-e-Iqbal in 2014 for demanding a sum of Rs1.2 million as extortion from a man named Amjad Khan, also the complainant in the case.
The fourth convict, Wali Khan, was arrested from the Mochko police station in a separate extortion case.
