Awais, Amir reach boxing championship quarters
KARACHI: Pakistan’s highly talented boxers Awais Ali Khan and Amir Khan blasted their way into the quarter-finals which meant Army, Navy and WAPDA reserved most of the seats in the next round of All Pakistan Amir Khan Boxing tournament here at Ustad Abdullah Baloch gymnasium at People’s Sports Complex on Wednesday.
Awais of Army, who impressed the experts with his talent in the Asian Championship in Bangkok recently, got the better of Noor Ali of Rangers 3-0 in the pre-quarter-final of light heavyweight category.
International Amir Khan of WAPDA faced little problem in prevailing over Farrukh Khan of Islamabad in the 69kg bout to move into the quarter-final.
Discarded international Dur Mohammad of Navy also won his pre-quarter-final, whacking Qadir Khan of Karachi Port Trust (KPT) 3-0.
Sindh Rangers’ second-in-command Maj Asamuddin Qazi witnessed the bouts. A two-minute silence was observed to pay tribute to those children of Peshawar’s Army Public School who lost their lives in an attack last year.
