PU decides to provide 8-Kanal land for metro train

Punjab University (PU) syndicate on Saturday decided to give eight-Kanal land of the varsity’s ground near Chouburji for Orange Train Project on the request of LDA.
The syndicate also decided that a request would be forwarded to the Punjab government for the research endowment fund and LDA would resolve all pending issues pertaining to the university in return while an MoU will also be signed with LDA and WASA in this regard. PU VC Dr Mujahid Kamran chaired the 1717th meeting of the syndicate which also heard the case of alleged illegal appointment of PU College of Information Technology (PUCIT) principal Dr Sarwar on the direction of the Lahore High Court.
Dr Mansoor Sarwar did not turn up for the third time before the syndicate to defend his alleged illegal appointment as professor and principal. However, his medical certificate was presented in the meeting, as was presented past two meetings, stating he could not attend. Briefing the meeting, Additional Registrar 1 Dr Kamran Abid stated that the medical certificate produced by his brother did not bear any stamp, any signature or any name of the doctor who gave the prescription.
The syndicate while taking serious notice of the absence of Dr Sarwar for the third time decided that if Dr Mansoor Sarwar did not appear in the next meeting for any reason, final decision would be taken without hearing him. The syndicate unanimously decided to endorse the orders of removal of Dr Amtul Jamil Sami from the directorship of Institute of Biochemistry and Biotechnology after hearing her and other faculty members of the department in person. The rest of the faculty members had submitted 18 different applications against Dr Sami in which her eligibility as professor was also challenged.
The meeting was briefed that after conducting a detailed inquiry, Dean Faculty of Life Sciences Prof Dr Naeem Khan recommended that she might be removed from directorship. It was also recommended that the issue of her appointment as professor of biochemistry might be probed/evaluated as per the PU rules.
Dr Makshoof Athar of Institute of Chemistry also did not appear before the syndicate to defend his appointment challenged by Dr Zaid Mahmood. Briefing the meeting, Dr Kamran Abid said a call letter and relevant documents were sent to Dr Athar but his office returned the documents. He said Dr Athar was also informed through email, sms, and other means of communication but he did not reply. The syndicate, after hearing Dr Zaid Mahmood and considering facts of the case, decided to form a three-member committee to probe his appointment.
The syndicate after considering the report regarding Dr Shahid Ghazi, former Director Institute of Geology under PEEDA Act, decided to issue a notice of personal hearing to Dr Ghazi.
