Ten shops damaged by fire in Zainab Market
At least 10 shops were damaged after a fire erupted on the third floor of the Zainab Market in downtown Saddar on Thursday morning. According to a spokesperson for the fire brigade, the fire initially broke out in one shop and quickly engulfed others.
At first, two fire tenders were dispatched to the site, but as the fire continued to spread, four more were sent to participate in the extinguishing work. The firefighters were able to douse the blaze with hectic efforts of more than four hours.
The spokesperson said that the fire spread rapidly due to the presence of clothes. Following the incident, the road opposite the Zainab Market was closed for traffic, causing a massive traffic jam. No loss of life was reported in the incident. However, the cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained.
