India’s economy
This refers to the letter 'Comparative economics' (Jan 7, 2020) by Arif Majeed. Austerity remains one of the strengths of the Indian economy. For example, Lal Bahadur Shastri, former prime minister of India was homeless when he died in Tashkent after the 1965 war.
Over the years, Indian prime ministers and politicians have helped local economies by using the Indian-manufactured car ‘Maruti’; the country has always prioritized local production over imported products. India’s strong sense of nationalism is also helping further the country’s economic and social development. However, Modi’s rise to power has created a country fuelled by discrimination and hatred. Flaws such as these will eventually lead to a decline in India’s economy.
