Metro Bus Service remain suspended as employees stage strike

Rawalpindi : The staffers of Metro Bus Service Thursday staged a protest demonstration over non-payment of salaries and suspended the service.

The metro bus service was suspended in the twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad in the morning and hundreds of protesters started a strike against the management for non-payment of salaries for three months.

The concerned management of Metro Bus Authority called police to control law and order situation on the occasion. The concerned management of MBA refunded the tickets to passengers at different stations.

Deputy Commissioner, Rawalpindi, Saifullah Dogar took an immediate action and directed Metro Bus Authority (MBA) to settle down issue to resume the service.

Some drivers were on the way while others parked the buses at the main bus terminals here in Rawalpindi and Islamabad. The angry protesters said they will not resume the Metro Bus Service until their salaries are paid to them. The protesters were on metro track at Chandni Chowk, Committee Chowk, Faizabad and some other metro stations. They were not allowing buses to proceed. The protesters raised slogans against Punjab government for not paying them salaries.

On the directions of deputy commissioner (DC) Rawalpindi, some senior officials of Metro Bus Authority (MBA) reached to talk with protesters and assured them to pay salaries within days. The talks between management and protesters remained successful. The protesters called of the strike and started bus service.

The senior officials of Metro Bus Authority (MBA) were reluctant to talk with 'The News' on this issue.

Metro Bus Authority (MBA) Director Madam Shumaila did not respond to the repeated queries by ‘The News’.
