‘Tehsil more important in new LG system’

LAHORE Provincial Minister for Law, Parliamentary Affairs and Social Welfare Raja Basharat has said a new land use master plan has become the need of the hour to provide better facilities, infrastructure and environment to the citizens at the grassroots level as the importance of town planning at the tehsil level has increased in view of the rapidly growing population in the major cities. He stated this while chairing a review meeting for the preparation of a new master plan for the land use in the tehsils of Punjab at Civil Secretariat on Thursday.

Raja Basharat said that Tehsil instead of district was going to be of paramount importance in the new local government system so the task of setting up a land use master plan in the tehsils should be completed before the next year's local government elections. He said that a pilot project should be started from a selected tehsil each in south Punjab, entral Punjab and north Punjab. For the pilot project, Sadiqabad tehsil was selected from south Punjab, Sheikhupura tehsil from central Punjab and Gujrat tehsil from north Punjab. The law minister said that the housing societies developed in the urban area should be audited.
