Gulfam, Asmatullah and Omer clinch 5km race titles

LAHORE: Gulfam Shaheen, with the timing of 26.00.04 emerged winner in Run for Pakistan Girls 5-km Race at Punjab Stadium on Sunday.

SBP Vice-Chairman Rao Zahid Qayyum, Secretary Sports Punjab Nadeem Mehboob, Director Sports Hafeez Bhatti, Divisional Sports Officer Nadeem Qaiser and DSO Tanveer Shah were also present on this occasion.

The Run for Pakistan (boys and girls) 5-km Race and Fun Race events were also attended by Ms Martina of Uzbekistan, Ms Lucie of Czech Republic, Ms Linda of Germany and CEO of Mamzar Runners Club Dubai, Director Mamzar Runners Club Dubai Muhammad Nawaz.

Asmatullah, with the timing of 17.42.82 won the Boys 5-km Race and Omer Haider was declared winner in Fun Race in Nishtar Park Sports Complex. As many as 450 players took part in Fun race and 150 in boys race and 45 in girls event.

Following are other results: Girls: 1. Gulfam Shaheen 26.00.04, 2. Hadiqa Nasir 27.30.00, 3. Maleeha Yousaf 27.49.01, Sahar Zaman, Roshnan, Maheen Ahmed, Shayan Zafar and Eman Ahmed.

Boys: 1. Asmatullah 17.42.82, 2. Sufian Ali 17.46.20, 3. Waseem khan 17.50.20, Hameed ali, Faisal iqbal, Abdullah asghar, Ammar khan. M Essa.

Fun Race results: 1. Omer Haider, 2. Shaharyar Shah, 3. Syed Ali Shah, 4. Hasan Sadar, Samiuulah.

Meanwhile Vice-Chairman Sports Board Punjab Rao Zahid Qayyum has Pakistan is a peaceful country to host international sports. “The circumstances in our country have improved a lot and that’s why foreigners are coming to Pakistan to participate in sports events,” he expressed these views while talking to media at the prize distribution ceremony of Run for Pakistan (boys and girls) 5-km Race at Punjab Stadium on Sunday.

Secretary Sports Punjab Nadeem Mehboob, Director Sports Hafeez Bhatti, Divisional Sports Officer Nadeem Qaiser and DSO Tanveer Shah were also present on this occasion. The events were also attended by Ms Martina of Uzbekistan, Ms Lucie of Czech Republic, Ms Linda of Germany and CEO of Mamzar Runners Club Dubai, Director Mamzar Runners Club Dubai Muhammad Nawaz.

The Run for Pakistan (boys and girls) 5-km Race and Fun Race events were organised under the auspices of Sports Board Punjab (SBP) and Divisional Sports Office Lahore.

Secretary Sports Punjab Nadeem Mehboob, while talking to media said the holding of such sports events is definitely a good omen for future of Pakistan sports. “Mamzar Runners Club Dubai also extended full cooperation for the holding of Run for Pakistan (boys and girls) 5-km Race and Fun Race events”.
