DIR: A three-day Dir sports and cultural festival has concluded at the Dir Stadium in Upper Dir.
The district government in collaboration with Sarhad Rural Support Programme (SRSP) had organised the festival.
The festival included football, volleyball, basketball, badminton, tug-of-war and other games. However, the spectators enjoyed matches of tug-of-war among various teams just before the concluding ceremony.
Apart from sports, a cultural exhibition was also organised in which various stalls were established. People liked the stalls of antiques and old weapons.
Visitors were filled with joy when they saw the weapons used by their ancestors. Mazhar, a visitor, said he was pleased to see the weapons with which the people of Dir had taken part in the Kashmir war.
Senior Minister Inayatullah Khan was the chief guest at the concluding ceremony.
Deputy Commissioner Imran Hameed Sheikh, Deputy Operational Commander, Upper Dir, Saqib, Commandant Dir Scouts Col Imran, Regional Programme Manager SRSP Noor Ajab Khan and others were also present.
Speaking on the occasion, Inayatullah said that people of the Upper Dir had the potential to excel in every field including education and sports.
He said students of Dir had proved their abilities by getting six positions in the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Examination in Malakand. He announced the plan for establishment of sports academy at the Dir Stadium.
A fireworks demonstration was held at the concluding ceremony which continued for half an hour.
Trophies and medals were distributed among the winner and runner up teams and best athletes.
