ISLAMABAD: Opposition Leader in the National Assembly Syed Khursheed Shah Tuesday said the members of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) have to make a decision themselves of their future following the report of the judicial commission in which the deficiencies of the electoral body were enlisted.
“Leaving the seats might be difficult after the judicial commission report but it is not as important as maintaining self respect,” he said while talking to media persons after a meeting of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) which he chaired.
The opposition leader said being a democratic party, the PPP wanted that Imran Khan and his party should remain in the Parliament. “The opposition and government jointly made efforts and brought the PTI back into the Parliament and even the MQM was also with us to bring the PTI back,” he added. He said the Parliament is the forum where all the issues could be resolved.
Khursheed Shah two leaders of the PPP sacrificed their lives for democracy and the party will always stand up to safeguard democracy. He said the PPP did not need prime ministership but wanted to strengthen the Federation through democracy.
About the MQM allegations of targeted operation in Karachi, the opposition leader said the MQM should not be pushed towards a close end. “Declaring anyone traitor should now be stopped as we all are patriotic citizens,” he added.
