Fire destroys garments factory in New Karachi
A garments factory was reduced to ashes in a third-category blaze in New Karachi late on Tuesday night, causing damage to goods worth millions of rupees.
Reacting to the information, the fire brigade dispatched three fire tenders to the site; however, they were unable to douse the blaze. According to a spokesman for the fire brigade, eight more fire tenders and two snorkels were later dispatched to extinguish the blaze. The blaze was put off after hectic efforts of 10 hours. Fire tenders of the Pakistan Navy and the Karachi Port Trust also took part in the operation.
No loss of life or injury was reported. The cause of the fire was yet to be ascertained; however, initially the fire department claimed that the fire was caused by a short circuit. Police officials said that no sign of any criminal activity had so far been found during investigations.
