This refers to the letter ‘Visit Pakistan’ (February 16) by Aamir Khan Waqas. No foreign tourist would like to visit a country where there is poor law and order, regardless of a relaxation in visa rules. Unfortunately, Pakistan has a dismal law and order situation owing to a politicised police force which operates under the laws that were passed by the British Raj. Absent from the country are also good and safe hotels that can provide basic facilities.
Tourism will remain a pipedream unless the authorities focus on improving governance. The PTI government appears reluctant to scrap the old police system.
