ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif returned back here on Wednesday late evening after paying four-day official visit to the United Kingdom. He had important meetings including one with the British Prime Minster David Cameron at 10-Downing Street and prominent leaders of other political parties, currently engaged in their electioneering.
The sources said that British leadership has wholeheartedly appreciated China-Pakistan
Economic Corridor (CPEC) and assured Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif that the United Kingdom would also continue with its supportive role for the benefit of Pakistan’s economy. They were appreciative of efforts of the incumbent government in Pakistan for all round betterment in the country.
The prime minister also took part in a ceremony to remember the soldiers who fought the First World War and laid down their lives. He also had meetings with Pakistani expatriates during his stay in London.
Highly placed sources told The News here that the British prime minister had made phone to prime minister for undertaking the UK visit and he (PM) left for the trip accordingly on Friday last. Prime Minister Nawaz undertook the UK visit immediate after conclusion of CPEC historic accord in the present of Chinese President Xi Jinping on the soil of Pakistan and subsequently Nawaz’s important sojourn to Saudi Arabia where he had significant meeting with custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdul Aziz and President of Yemen Hadi Almansoori in Riyadh separately.
The prime minister had discussions with his British counterpart about the regional as well international situation apart from the subjects of mutual interest. The sources reminded that the visit of Prime Minister Nawaz to the United Kingdom was for the cause of promotion of economic and political ties with that country.
The prime minister will chair a high level meeting here today (Thursday) at the PM House to discuss the political and law and order situation back in the country. In another meeting the decision pertaining to the extension in 7th National Finance Commission (NFC) award would be discussed. Federal Finance and Economic Affairs Minister Senator Muhammad Ishaq Dar and other senior officials would attend it, the sources added.
