LAHORE: Punjab PTI president Ejaz Ch condemned the killing of 20 labourers in Turbat.
In a statement issued on Sunday, Ejaz said cowardly militants opened fire at the labourers while they were sleeping in their camps. He said Turbat is a sensitive area and questioned why adequate security measures were not taken despite history of labourer killings in Balochistan over the years.
He said Turbat is the hometown of Balochistan Chief Minister Abdul Malik Baloch but the tragic incident speaks volumes about the security situation in Balochistan. He said the CM instead of resolving the conflict between his party and PML-N should focus on law and order in Balochistan.
He said the government must engage all disgruntled Baloch leaders and get them back in the system. Condemning the incident, PTI secretary general Yasmin said the government could not fulfil its promises for improvement in law and order in the province. She said such incidents keep happening regularly but no one is ready to take the responsibility, she added.
She said if India is involved in insurgent activities in Balochistan, the PM should have the courage to raise the issue with India. Information Secretary Andleeb Abbas said unless historical injustice is rectified and the legitimate aspirations of the Baloch people are met, the ongoing security situation in Balochistan is bound to assume an alarming proportion. She said if the government is serious and wants peace in Balochistan it should create jobs and invest in Balochistan. She expressed deep grief and sorrow over the tragic incident and demanded a compensation package for the victims’ families.
