Not thrilled with the bill
April 25, 2018
Teachers and students across Sindh are protesting against the passage of the Sindh Universities and Institutes Laws (Amendment) Bill, 2018. Now that the bill has been passed, the Sindh governor will no longer be in control of public universities. Such powers have been given to the chief minister. The saddest thing is that media coverage is almost nonexistent.
The failing standard of education in government schools has become common knowledge. Universities have exercised their autonomy for many years. The decision to snatch the powers of universities is problematic and should be taken back at the earliest. Let universities be responsible for running the institution in the way they deem fit.
