MULTAN: Pakistan People's Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has said Nawaz Sharif has always taken dictation and even today he is looking for a deal.

Talking to the media after offering Fateha for the late Makhdoom Wajahat Hussain Gilani at his residence, he said Nawaz started his politics under the dictation of General Zia, but then he did not care about respect to vote. He was just telling a lie in the name of respect to vote, he added.

When asked about the next caretaker prime minister, he said talks were under way to finalise the name. In the past, only the ruling party used to appoint the caretaker prime minister. But, it was the PPP which bound the ruling party to appoint the caretaker PM in consultation with the opposition.

Earlier, addressing a press conference, he said the PPP was the first to advocate for creation of south Punjab province to end discrimination and backwardness in the region. "The party will talk to Janoobi Punjab Sooba Mahaz (JPSM) leadership. Majority parliamentarians of the JPSM were part of the assembly or in power for the last five years but they kept mum over the demand for the south Punjab province," he added.

The PPP chairman said he had expectations from the chief justice of Pakistan. "In democracy, each institution works in its prescribed limits. The judges do not speak but their verdicts and judgments speak. The Supreme Court has pronounced historical judgment in the Panama Leaks case," he added. He said the judiciary should take suo motu notice of lack of justice to poor people.

He said the Sindh government had also launched a union council-based poverty reduction programme and this unique programme had so far pulled out 600,000 families from poverty. He said the PPP had launched the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP), which facilitates the impoverished particularly the women. He said Karachi was facing hours’ long loadshedding due to wrong decision of privatising Karachi Electric and the Federation led by PML-N was not providing electricity to people of Karachi. He said MQM was responsible for privatization of KESC.

Earlier, former prime minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani, former Punjab governor Makhdoom Ahmed and members of the Gilani family, PPP office bearers received Bilawal Bhutto Zardari on his arrival at the residence of Makhdoom Wajahat Hussain Gilani. Bilawal said that consensus was being developed for installing an impartial caretaker government to conduct free and fair elections in the country. He said that democracy was flourishing in the country and improving day by day for the last 10 years. He said the PPP had made peaceful transfer of powers from one civilian government to another. He added that the PPP was always in favour of another province in southern Punjab and the party had passed a bill in this regard in the Senate during its last tenure.

He said that establishment of a new province in south Punjab was the need of the hour to end sense of deprivation among the people of the area.
