The orthopaedic department was inaugurated at Benazir Bhutto Hospital (BBH) here on Tuesday in a simple ceremony after necessary renovation work on the building carried out through funds personally donated by the Bait-ul-Mal managing director.
Rawalpindi Medical College Principal Professor Dr. Muhammad Umar, Chairman Board of Management of Allied Hospitals Dr. Muhammad Aslam, Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz) leader Dr. Jamal Nasir and philanthropist Sheikh Abid Waheed attended the opening ceremony along with staff serving at the orthopaedic department and BBH administration.
Pakistan Bait-ul-Mal Managing Director Sheikh Abid Waheed has donated funds required for renovation of building of the orthopaedic department in his personal capacity. The renovation work was completed in three months. Under the renovation work, tiles have been fixed on floors of two female wards and two male wards, said BBH Chief Dr. Asif Qadir Mir while talking to ‘The News’ on Tuesday.
He said tiles have also been applied on walls in the wards where it was needed. He said the bathrooms of the orthopaedic department were also requiring renovation that has also been done through donation provided by the Bait-ul-Mal managing director.
A lot of work, particularly on building component at the allied hospitals in town, has been done on self-help basis through public donation and at times, with the donation provided by doctors serving in the hospitals of twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi. The waiting areas in various departments of the BBH have been established with the help of public donations while the Institute of Psychiatry at the hospital constructed a new block on self-help basis by running fund-raising campaign. Dr. Mir said that joining hands with public sector hospitals in serving poor patients is a positive sign that not only improves the quality of service at the hospital but also promotes a healthy trend in society.
