LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif on Wednesday inaugurated the extension project of the THQ Hospital Raiwind.

Addressing the inaugural ceremony, he said the Orthopaedic and Gyne Wards had been established in the hospital along with provision of a state-of-the-art operation theater and latest machinery for providing quality facilities to patients. He said new hospitals were being established across the province where latest facilities were provided and besides installation of CT Scan machines in all DHQ hospitals, hepatitis filter clinics had also been set up in every district.

He said: “It was my desire that the same medicines are given to patients in public hospitals as are used by me during ailment. Today, this dream has come true and for the first time in the 70-year history of the country, needy patients are getting free quality medicines. He said samples of medicines were sent to European laboratories for examination and it happened for the first time that not a single sample was rejected. In the past, 50 per cent samples were rejected.”

He said mobile health units were providing best facilities in remote areas. Keeping in view their efficacy, 25 mobile health units had been imported. Similarly, 40 hospitals were modernised in different districts. “This is the revolution we have brought in the health sector,” he said.

He said elements involved in sit-ins and lockdowns were desirous of destroying the revolution as public welfare was not tolerable to them. “What is the objective of sit-ins and lockdowns and agitations as life is a mirage? Why are you unnerved over the revolution of prosperity being brought in the lives of common people? We are introducing the system envisaged by Iqbal and Jinnah, but conspiracies have been hatched to hinder it. I am giving a warning to political jugglers that they should refrain from their designs of fooling the nation, otherwise you will be held accountable and the nation will never forgive you. What have you done in KP during the last four and a half years as you have only lied, took u-turns and deceived people? You had said you would construct hospitals and schools in KP instead of starting a Metro bus project. Instead of giving honour to your voters, you have ridiculed them.”

The CM said: “There are plenty of opportunities available for producing thousands of megawatts of electricity through hydel power in KP, but you have not produced even a single megawatt of electricity during the last four and a half years. On the other hand, the Punjab government completed electricity projects of 5,000 megawatts through its own resources and work is in progress on other projects as well. Niazi Sahib, you blatantly deceived the nation, lied and created anarchy. Now what face will you show to people?”

He said: “If we succeed in KP in the 2018 elections, I promise that the Peshawar Metro Bus project would be operationalized within a year. Instead of serving the masses, you call others dacoits and thieves. This nation wants health, education and transport facilities, but you are giving falsehood, anarchy and chaos.”

He said the PML-N government took unprecedented steps for the prosperity of people and if people gave it an opportunity to serve them again; Karachi, Peshawar, Quetta and other cities will be totally transformed. My name should be changed if these cities are not developed on the pattern of development made in Lahore. I pray to Allah Almighty to save people from cheaters.”

He said the first phase of PKLI had been inaugurated and the credit went to its management. Multan Kidney Center, Raiwind Hospital and five other hospitals in Lahore along with Recep Tayyip Erdogan Hospital of Muzaffargarh had been handed over to the Indus Trust which was managing them properly. The trust head, Dr Abdul Bari, was a saint-like personality and his team was serving patients honestly. He also thanked Health Minister Kh Imran Nazir, Minister Tanvir Aslam Malik, Secretary Health Ali Jan Khan and Secretary C&W Mian Mushtaq for giving a new lease of life to the hospital.

He also chaired a meeting in the hospital committee room and directed that counters for outdoor patients be increased. Meanwhile, talking to Minister of State Abdur Rehman Kangu and PML-N leader Siddiq Baloch who called on him in Lahore, Shahbaz said overcoming backwardness of southern Punjab was the foremost priority of the Punjab government.

He said development projects worth billions of rupees had been completed there. “The development and prosperity of southern Punjab is dear to me and more resources are being provided as compared to the number of people living there. The Khawaja Fareed University of Engineering and Technology was established in Rahim Yar Khan while the construction work of Muzaffargarh-DG Khan and Lodhran-Khanewal Roads had been started. He said safe city projects would be launched in Multan and Bahawalpur. He said thousands of public schools in southern Punjab were being lighted through Khadim-e-Punjab Ujala Programme. On the other hand, Danish schools had been established in southern Punjab to provide quality education to intelligent students.
