Death toll from dengue virus rises to 35 in KP

PESHAWAR: With the loss of two more lives on Monday, death toll from the dengue virus reached 35 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Those who succumbed to the deadly virus were identified as Muzzamil Khan, son of Jan Shah, and wife of Hakim Khan. Muzzamil Khan was 14 years old. He belonged to Tehkal. He was admitted to the Khyber Teaching Hospital on September 20 with fever but he couldn’t recover.

The patient died at a private hospital in Peshawar but hailed from the gun-manufacturing town of Darra Adamkhel. Darra Adamkhel has already reported positive cases but it was the first human loss in the town as a result of dengue virus.

Dengue infected 218 more people, the majority of them in Peshawar.According to the Dengue Response Unit, the Khyber Teaching Hospital received 820 patients and 143 of them were diagnosed with dengue virus.

The Lady Reading Hospital received 173 patients and 27 patients were tested dengue positive. In Hayatabad Medical Complex, 23 patients were tested dengue positive.After Peshawar, Mardan with 13 cases was on top in terms of reporting maximum number of dengue cases.Abbotabad reported two cases and Mansehra and Swabi one case each.
