For last four days, the residents of Rawalpindi are continuously submitting complaints to the Chief Minister and Chief Secretary Complaint Cell against non-completion of Metro Bus Project in the given time-frame, requesting the concerned authorities to speed up construction work to save them from agony and misery, reliable sources at the Commissioner's Office told ‘The News’ here on Wednesday.
A key official in the Commissioner's Office, on condition of anonymity, said that around 1,362 complaints have been received in four days and some people have sent their complaints directly to Chief Minister Mian Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif and Chief Secretary Punjab, requesting them to speed up construction work on Metro Bus Project in Rawalpindi and Islamabad. People, in their complaints, said that they could not even move in the city, particularly at Benazir Bhutto Road, for more than 10 months due to construction work on the Metro Bus Project. The government had promised to finish construction work in 10 months, but “God knows better when this project would end and when public of Rawalpindi would heave a sigh of relief,” the official said.
The delay in completion of Metro Bus Service Project is getting on the nerves of people belonging to all walks of life. The residents of Rawalpindi and Islamabad were very happy and eagerly waiting for January 30 for the completion of the project to ease their movements.
On the other hand, Commissioner Rawalpindi Division and Chairman Metro Bus Project Zahid Saeed has refused to give final date for completion of the mega project. On a question, Commissioner Rawalpindi Division and Chairman Metro Bus Project Zahid Saeed said "We could not give final date for completion of this mega project. “There are some flaws in construction work of Package-II and Package-V, therefore, we are facing delay,” he claimed. “I have ordered all companies to speed up construction work to operate buses at the earliest,” he said.
The contractors and the concerned authorities have failed to come up with any final date of completion of the mass transit project in the twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad.
The residents said that for more than 10 months, particularly during school and office timings, nobody could pass through Benazir Bhutto Road due to traffic blockades. Motorists face this problem not only on Benazir Bhutto Road, but several other roads too, including Rawal Road and Airport Road.
The residents of Rawalpindi are facing hell like situation from Saddar to Chandni Chowk, particularly Liaquat Bagh to Committee Chowk. Nobody could move during school time as motorists madly find out ways in streets, mohallahs and even closed alleys to reach their destinations but fail. Similarly, from Sixth Road to Double Road (Shamsabad), motorists face difficulties.
In Islamabad, people face difficulties in reaching Markaz G-8, Passport Office, Peshawar Morr, Qaddafi Chowk and several other points.
However, the high-ups of district government, while overlooking all miseries of public, claimed that the project would be an exclusive one after completion and people would get better travel facilities.
