After the blast

By our correspondents
February 21, 2017

The memories of the Lahore blast were still afresh when militants attacked the shrine of Lal Shahbaz Qalandar in Sehwan Sharif killing more than 80 devotees and leaving around 250 injured. The fresh spate of terror has traumatised the nation. Last week, eight terrorist attacks shook the country. From every nook and cranny, the call for renewed and full-fledged crackdown against banned outfits and foreign-funded terrorist organisations is gaining momentum. One wonders when such stomach-churning blasts will stop visiting the country and the anti-peace terror groups will be brought to books.

It is time NAP should be made functional in true letter and spirit. Political expediency in dealing with certain outlawed groups should be put aside in order to exterminate extremism. A lock and load strategy is required to avert the terror threats. The pending cases of already rounded off terrorists should be decided on a priority basis. The financiers and facilitators of fundamentalist groups should be apprehended and awarded an exemplary punishment.
