What could be Nick Reiner's fate after pleading not guilty parents’ murder case?
Nick Reiner pleaded not guilty on Feb. 23 to two counts of first-degree murder of parents, filmmaker Rob Reiner and Michele Singer Reiner's December 2025 stabbing deaths
Nick Reiner could still face the death penalty if convicted of killing his parents, prosecutors in Los Angeles confirmed this week.
The 32-year-old son of filmmaker Rob Reiner and Michele Singer Reiner pleaded not guilty on February 23 to two counts of first-degree murder in connection with the couple’s December 2025 stabbing deaths. He was arraigned in a Los Angeles courtroom and remains in custody.
Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman said the case is eligible for capital punishment due to special circumstances, including multiple murder allegations and the claimed use of a deadly weapon.
Hochman described the decision on whether to pursue the death penalty as an “ongoing process.” He said prosecutors will consider both factors that make the crime more serious and factors that may lessen responsibility before making a final decision.
Rob, 78, and Michele, 70, were found dead at their Brentwood home on December 14, 2025. Nick was arrested hours later near the University of Southern California campus without incident.
If convicted, he could face life in prison without parole or the death penalty. His next court appearance is scheduled for April 29.
Rob Reiner, known for directing A Few Good Men and When Harry Met Sally, is survived by his children, including Romy and Jake Reiner, as well as his daughter, Tracy Reiner, from his previous marriage to Penny Marshall.
