Schools to be shut on APS attack anniversary

PESHAWAR: The district administration has announced public holiday in all the educational institutions of Peshawar in connection with second anniversary of Army Public School on December 16.An official statement from the district administration said that Deputy Commissioner Riaz Khan Mehsud had announced closure of all the universities, colleges and schools on December 16 in Peshawar.

 

3 checkposts in Kaghan valley closed

MANSEHRA: The police have closed its three checkposts in Kaghan valley after snowfall, an official said on Wednesday. “We have closed down three checkposts in Kaghan valley as the mobility of trucks and other consignments of China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) comes to an end through Mansehra-Naran-Jalkhad road due to snowfall in the valley,” Ahsan Saifullah, the district police officer told reporters here. The checkposts in upper parts of Kaghan valley, Battakundai, Barawai and Soch were closed down earlier last week after the areas received first snowfall of the season.

 

Man kills sister in Nowshera

NOWSHERA: A man shot dead his sister at Shaido area in the limits of the Akora Khattak Police Station on Wednesday, official sources said.One Fasihur Rehman reported to the police that he was working at his field in Shaido area when he heard a fire shot at his house. “I ran to my house where I found my wife Gul Naz Bibi lying in a pool of blood,” he said, adding that his daughter Ayesha told him that her maternal uncle Ali Hazrat shot her mother dead.The body was shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital in Nowshera and later handed over to the family members for burial. The police registered the case and started an investigation.

 

One killed in Mardan firing

MARDAN: One person was killed and another sustained injuries on Mall Road outside the district courts in the limits of City Police Station on Wednesday, the police said. Sarfaraz Khan and his son Irfan, residents of Afsar Mal Killay, were going to the district and sessions court when Maroof Shah and Subhanullah, resident of Afsar Mal Killay Toru, allegedly started firing at them. As a result, Sarfaraz was killed on the spot. The sources said the policemen on duty at the district courts also opened fire, injuring one of the attackers, Maroof Shah.The police arrested Maroof Shah and Subhanullah on the spot. The motive behind the killing is said to be an old enmity. The police registered a first information report (FIR) of the incident on the complaint of Sub-Inspector Bakhat Shed Khan, security in-charge of the court.

  

PO among 15 suspects arrested during search

TAKHT BHAI: The police claimed to have arrested 15 suspected persons, including a proclaimed offender (PO) and seized arms during search operation against the outlaws in Lundkhwar area on Wednesday. The police sources said the law-enforcers launched the search operation at various areas falling in the limits of the Lundkhwar Police Station and arrested a PO and 15 suspected persons. The police also seized three pistols and ammunition from their possession.

 

Official admits political interference damaging forests

MINGORA: The Forest Department officials are involved in cutting of a large number of trees in Swat’s Matta tehsil, official sources said on Wednesday. The sources said that Sub-Divisional Forest Officer received information that someone was smuggling thousands of wooden logs from Lalko Sakhra in Matta tehsil. He headed towards the area to recover the timber. However, Forest Guard Habibullah stopped the official from visiting the area.

 

Chitral town’s electricity issue to end soon: nazim

CHITRAL: District nazim Syed Maghfirat Shah on Wednesday said that the electricity from the power station at Golen would be provided to Chitral town.Speaking at a meeting with power committee, he said that Sarhad Rural Support Programme (SRSP) had launched the work on the request of the power committee. The European Union-funded project was aimed at putting an end to loadshedding in Chitral town. He told the participants of the meeting that first the power outages issue in Chitral district would be resolved and then other areas would be provided electricity.
