Sindh striving to upgrade standards of education, asserts Murad
The Sindh government is trying its best to ameliorate the standard of education right from primary to higher education, whereas efforts to enhance the performance of examination boards was also being focused upon, Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah observed on Friday.
Speaking to media after visiting a Science exhibition organised by the Dawood Foundation Public School, CM Syed Murad Ali Shah acknowledged that there were several problems within the education system. However, he claimed that the government was adopting drastic measures to improve it.
Likening the government’s efforts to the imposition of an ‘emergency’, the CM stated that the objective was to not only improve performance of educational institutes but also develop communication skills of the teaching staff.
"There indeed are important positions lying vacant in universities, boards and directorates but they would soon be filled," Murad assured.
He said punctuality of the teaching staff was definitely not enough to build an educational institute but a simultaneous effort to improve the capacity of the teachers would also have to be made.
"We would have to inculcate a sense of responsibility in teachers, for which the civil society, educationists as well as the media would have to play a serious role," the CM observed.
Reminiscing the time when the Narayan Jagannath Vaidya High School (NJV) ranked among the top education institutes of the country, Murad claimed, "The government is working on restoring its lost educational glory."
The CM was welcomed by chairman Engro and Dawood Foundation Hussain Dawood. He visited projects set up by students for the school’s Magnificent Science Exhibition.
The children of the school mixed up with the chief minister and took pictures with him and got their books signed by him.
CM meets UNDP official
Murad in a meeting with UN Resident Coordinator and UNDP Resident Representative, Neil Buhne, at the CM House, discussed the progress of UNDP’s ongoing projects in Sindh.
Sindh government’s initiatives in sustainable development goals were also brought under discussion. He informed the UN official that the government was working on issues including women empowerment, human rights, girls’ education and immunisation against polio. A close coordination on UNDP projects was also said to be developed.
