IST awards ceremony held

Institute of Space Technology (IST), Islamabad celebrated its 11th Commencement of Class 2016 with the graduation of 177 students in the discipline of Aerospace, Electrical, Mechanical, Materials Science & Engineering and Space Science here on Wednesday.
Professor Emeritus Dr. Atta-ur-Rahman, Patron in Chief International Centre for Chemical and Biological Sciences and former chairman of the HEC, graced the occasion as the chief guest. Senior dignitaries from the civil and military establishments were also present on the occasion. The chief guest conferred the students, with the Masters and Baccalaureate degrees in their respective fields of specialisation.
The chief guest gave away the President of Pakistan Gold Medals to Muhammad Adil Khan of Aerospace Engineering, Muhammad Usama Javaid of Electrical Engineering, Sheroz Khan Gakhar of Mechanical Engineering, Abdul Moeez of Materials Science & Engineering, and Afnan Tahir of Space Science, who stood first in their respective programs. Muhammad Uzair and Arbab Shehryar Khan from Aerospace Engineering, Abdur Rahman & Ali Haseeb from Electrical Engineering, Muhammad Azfar Jamal, Hammad Ahmad Hamid, Sheroz Khan Gakhar and Ghulam Muhammad Murtaza from Mechanical Engineering, Afnan Tahir, Mr. Adnan Mehmood Baig & Awais Mirza from Space Science and Muhammad Awais and Mr. Mohsin Jalil Khan from Materials Science and Engineering, were awarded Vice Chancellor’s medals for best final year projects.
The chief guest congratulated all the graduates specially the award winners and position holders. He advised the graduating students to use their skills and knowledge with sincerity and commitment towards national advancement. He expressed his deep appreciation for the efforts being made by IST’s team towards achieving academic excellence and promoting curricular and co-curricular activities. He also praised IST’s efforts in promoting Research and Development in a meaningful and positive way. Addressing the students, the chief guest pointed out that to compete in this knowledge age, there is no room for complacency. He urged the students to reach out and make a change for better.
Speaking on the occasion, Vice Chancellor of IST Engr. Imran Rahman commended the graduating students on their hard work and advised them to devote themselves in fulfilling their social, moral and national obligations.
