Eala lost to the 17th-seeded Jovic in straight sets 4-6, 2-6
American player Iva Jovic has defeated Filipina tennis star Alexa Eala in the first round, leading to her elimination from the 2026 French Open on Tuesday, May 26, 2026.
The match lasted for 1 hour and 14 minutes and Eala briefly showed momentum in the first set but failed to sustain it in front of Jovic.
Eventually, Eala lost to the 17th-seeded Jovic in straight sets 4-6, 2-6.
Eala briefly rallied in the first set, closing the gap to 4-5 after falling behind 1-5 in the opening set, but Jovic ultimately broke her to take the set.
Jovic took control early in the second set to clinch the victory.
Despite Eala’s early exit from the French Open, her campaign at Roland Garros is not over yet. Filipina tennis star is set to compete in the double competition alongside her partner, Canada’s Victoria Mboko.
They set to face a daunting opening-round matchup against the duo of Leylah Fernandez and her partner on May 27, Wednesday.
Eala will receive €87,000 in prize money for her participation in the singles main draw at the French Open.
